Reducing Waste
Another shining example of our commitment - and of the major impact that production jobs can make - has to do with the steps we go to in order to help preserve our fragile environment. Note that this wasn't something that we simply "did once and forgot about." On a regular basis we re-evaluate all the steps that we're taking and whenever we find room for improvement, that is an opportunity that we happily capitalize on.
In 2017, for example, we can measure how many pounds of recycled materials we were using on a daily basis to make sure that we could do as much as possible. This has also led us to being totally landfill free, regardless of how large we continue to grow.
At this point, more than 20% of our entire company's electricity is recyclable - a number that we pledge to increase in the future. We've already installed solar panels at one of our turkey breeder farms, which are on the horizon. We use wind turbines and produce more than 13 million kilowatt-hours to enable energy in 2022 alone.
Food Safety, Always
Finally, production jobs in Mercer County are a big part of our commitment to food safety. All of our meat plans have quality teams that constantly test to make sure that our food safety levels are among the highest in the industry. We also work regularly with the USDA and have personnel from that fine organization at each plant.
